Ten National Youth Achievement Award participants and Gold Award holders were given the opportunity to embark on a trip to Switzerland for the 11th Singapore-Switzerland bi-lateral youth exchange programme.

The youth went to Switzerland to study and make observations in areas such as environmental protection, cultural heritage, tourism, educational systems and political and military systems.

The youth, led by Ms Vicky Quek, Student Development Officer, Singapore Polytechnic, were taken on tours around Eastern and Western Switzerland to Zurich, St. Gallen and Lausanne.

During their visit, the Singapore youth met with Karin Keller Sutter, Minister of Justice and Police, during a lunch at the Parliament House at St. Gallen where they discussed youth and security issues. They also visited Swiss vocational colleges where they got a chance to attend classes with Swiss students.

The Singapore delegation also visited places of interest such as Mount Santis, the Roman Baths at St. Theodul church, the Abbey of St. Gallen, the Provins Valais winery, the National Museum and the Olympic Museum. However, many of the youth particularly enjoyed the homestay part of the programme as it enabled them to experience the Swiss way of life first hand with their hosts.
